This time, we will explain how to set up a free membership.
[Simple Memberships] > [Membership Level] Settings
The types of membership, such as free membership and paid membership, are called membership levels.
After installing the plugin, click on “Membership Levels” under “Simple Memberships” in the left sidebar that will be added.

Click the [Add New] button to register the type of member.
How to register as a free member
- Membership Level Name
- WordPress default user permissions

Set
1. Membership level name
This is where you name the type of membership, such as free membership. This name will be communicated to customers.
2. WordPress default user permissions
When a user registers as a member, they will be added to the WordPress user list. At that time, you need to determine the user's permissions.
- Subscribers - users who can read articles
- Contributor - User who can submit articles
- Contributor - User who can post articles
- Editor - User who can edit articles
- Administrator - A user who can change WordPress settings
I think most people probably use it to register as a user to read articles, so I'll go with [Subscriber].
3. Expiration date
You can set a period from unlimited to an expiration date. Once the period has expired, users will not be able to log in.
Since this is a free membership, select [Unlimited].
4. Activate via email
If you check the box and enable it, you will be able to complete your registration by clicking on the URL in the email that is automatically sent to you after registration.

Click the [Register New Membership] button
You have now registered as a free member. Please keep this ID handy as it is important. This time, it is 【2】
Registration form settings
Set up the form to display so that free members can register.
Click [Settings] under [Simple Memberships].
[General Settings]
- Enable free membership - Check
- Free Membership ID – Enter the ID you recorded earlier
Set the above two items and click [Save Changes].

When you add a new plugin, a registration form for free members will be generated under [Register] in the automatically generated static page.
By default, the following page is generated:
If the free membership setup is completed successfully, a registration form like the one below will be automatically generated.
- username
- email address
- password
- given name
- Surname
This is the field where you can enter your name. As mentioned earlier, you cannot customize this field unless you purchase a paid add-on.
Mail Settings
We will show you how to set up the email that is automatically sent when you register as a free member.
Click on “Settings” under “WP Membership”.

This is the setting for the email sent when you register as a free member.
Email Variable
The information you enter that is displayed in the body of the email is called a variable. The available variables are
- {first_name} - First name
- {last_name} - Last name
- {reg_link} - Login URL

Create a static page by clicking on [Add New].
