Why was the page not indexed?

When you look at the Search Console administration screen, you may wonder if your site is being picked up by search engines.

This is the part.

In this way, you should be able to confirm that the items have been registered in the [All Detection Pages] section.

Below that there will be a list of reasons why the page was not indexed.

What does "Excluded by noindex tag" mean?

In the section "Why was the page not indexed?" there is a section that says "Excluded by noindex tag." Clicking on this will display a list of URLs.

The important thing here is to look at the URLs of the pages that are noindexed and see whether the URLs that should actually be registered with search engines are included in the "Excluded by noindex tag" list.

What does "Excluded by noindex tag" mean?

When you use a WordPress site, a list called a sitemap is automatically sent to search engines to convey page information. This is a notification that a [noindex] tag has been added to the list sent.

Although the sitemap sends information about this page to Google's search robots, it instructs them not to include it in the search engine list, so there is a contradiction.

What is noindex?

Index means that you should add it to your search engine list. [Noindex] means that you should not add it to your search engine list.

Why does the contradiction occur?

The default WordPress functionality automatically submits sitemap listings to search engines. However, if you use a plugin or theme to add a noindex tag to your site, a conflict will occur.

If you use the All in one SEO plugin, the All in one SEO plugin may overwrite the sitemap list for search engines. If you can manage sitemap submission and noindex with any plugin or theme, conflicts will be less likely to occur.

Pages that do not need to be registered with search engines

You don't have to do anything. Here are some examples of cases where a page should not be registered in search engines:

• Images – Images that do not need to be picked up by search engines
• Category list/tag list page - This is a page that has both pros and cons. Some people think it's good for search engines to pick up this page, while others think it's unnecessary.

For pages to be submitted to search engines

This is a problem. You should immediately check your page and make sure that the noindex setting is not turned on.

Alternate page (with appropriate canonical tag)

For alternative pages (with appropriate canonical tags), you can also click on them to see a list of the URLs.

In the case of our website, the amp and embed pages are listed like this. There are no problems, so you can leave it as it is.

The page has a redirect

There is a redirect on the page, but due to site renewal, there are other pages that are redirecting. This is intentional, so there is no problem.

Duplicate. Not selected as canonical by user.

"Duplicate. Not selected as canonical page by user." This is a worrying message. Click to check the target URL.

When I checked the URLs, they were all amp pages.

Not Found (404)

Not Found (404) means that the URL submitted in the sitemap does not exist. Since we are renewing our site, there seems to be a discrepancy between the sitemap information and the actual information.

Blocked due to other 4xx issues

It was blocked due to another 4xx problem. In this case, the page "/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php" was detected, but this is intentional as a countermeasure taken by a security plugin, so there is no particular problem.

Crawled - Not Indexed

This is the section that says "crawled - not indexed." "Crawled" means that the search engine has crawled the page but has not yet indexed it (search engine list).

When I checked the URL, I found that the feed page was detected as shown below. This is also a feed page, so there is no problem.

When I clicked on the URL, I found that it had a paginated URL. This is not a legitimate page, so it is okay to leave it as is.

Detection - Not Indexed

The message "Detected - Not indexed" listed about 10 pages that should be indexed, so I applied for them to be indexed.
