To set up a subscription, you must register a PayPal business account. You cannot set up a subscription with a personal account.

Create a PayPal button
Go to [WP Membership] > [Payment]
Select the payment button type
Select [Create New Button] > [PayPla Subscription] and click [Next]
Enter the required information for paypal subscription (top)
- Button Title
- Membership Levels
- Payment Currency
- paypal email
- Charges for each cycle
- Billing Cycle
- Billing Cycle Count
- Retry on failure
First, let's set up the following.
Button Title
Give the button a title.
Example: Subscription member 1
Membership Levels
Select the membership level you created.
Payment Currency
Select Japanese Yen (¥).
paypal email
Enter the email address registered to your PayPal account.
Charges for each cycle
Enter the amount. No need to enter yen.
Example: 500
Billing Cycle
You can set the day, month, and year.
Billing Cycle Count
You can set how many times the billing cycle you set will stop. If you want to continue the billing until you cancel your membership, leave it blank.
If you want to set the billing cycle to one month and end the membership after six billings (six-month limited membership)

Retry on failure
This setting determines whether to retry if the subscription payment fails. We recommend that you check this option.
> Two attempts will be made, but if the third attempt fails your subscription payment will be cancelled.

Trial Charge
If you want to set an initial price for the trial period that is different from the regular price, enter this here.

If you don't want a trial period, leave it blank.
Trial Billing Period
Set the trial period. You can set it by day, month, or year. For example, if you want to try it for 7 days,

Return URL
Enter the page URL to be displayed after clicking the payment button and completing the payment. Prepare a static thank you page.
Create a page by clicking [Static Page] > [Add New]. Details are explained below.

Button Image URL
You can set an image for the payment button. If you search for "purchase button image material free," you will find a variety of images. Details of this are also explained below.

Custom Checkout Page Logo Image
Set this if you want to display your original logo when making a payment with PayPal.
Introducing a setting example
PayPal button created
The PayPal button you just created is listed in [Manage Payment Button]. Use [Shortcode] to place the PayPal button on the paid membership registration page.
In my case, [swpm_payment_button id=54] is the shortcode for displaying the button I created.
Automatically created page [Join Us]
Activate the Simple member ship plugin and paste the shortcode into the [Join Us] page, one of the pages that is automatically generated.
Delete all default sales text and change it to sales text that suits your service.
Insert the shortcode in the text like this:
This makes it easy to set up a purchase button.
Click the purchase button
You will be redirected to the PayPal payment screen.
For PayPal personal accounts
The subscription feature cannot be used with a personal PayPal account.
If you see the following message, please check if your account is a business account. If you haven't already, please register as a business account.
I want to open the PayPal payment page in a separate window.
Add [new_window="1"] to the shortcode.

Please change the id to your own button id.
How to use credit card payments with PayPal subscriptions
By default, credit card payments are not enabled for subscription payments. You can enable credit card payments by enabling the setting called Enhanced Recurring Billing.
